If you think about it, everyone applying for a PhD program is probably willing to do research in the area and glad to continue his/her study in graduate school, right? You can ask the professor. It's probably sufficient if you can present what he sees in you, the connection between your background and his research/the school/s strengths, or even your unique achievement. Don't lose a good opportunity! That's to say, it's too generic a reason to impress the professor. Thinking twice, it is really very weak. I guess some more specific reasons would help. For example, I can say what research paper I did, what conference I attended, my fields of interests, blah blah. The professor must have his research focus, then I can say how and what I would do if I enter his program, and maybe discuss some indepth topics related with his research. Would this work? or any better approaches? |
