答案是B。我选了D。我想来想去，D是不是错在the number应该用high or low 来修饰，而不应用less or more

但是我觉得B中，对比的"but"前后不太对称，不太符合ETS的规则。

but 前是  some 4,000 existed in .......

对比的是but后，there are.....

请教一下大家，为什么B不对？

我来纠正一下答案,应该是A.

在网上查了很多资料后,被彻底说服.

该题考点:

many和amount可以作代词,前者用于可数名词,后者用于不可数名词

遇到百分比或分数时,即使是修饰可数名词,也用less,如There are less than 50% students still in the classroom.

A正确,"分数"前用less,并且many指代drive-ins.

B错在"as"的用法,并且"分数"前用了fewer.

C错在"分数"前用了fewer,并且句子不完整.因为这里amount只能指代"4000",简化后原句变为"there are fewer than 1000."后面缺了点东东啊!

D错在"the"上,应改为that

E错在"it"指代不明.
