怀疑答案有错 (GWD27-18)

这个定语从句感觉上很有中国式英语的味道了，但没有找出明显错误根据。我认为them指代scientists挺清楚的，如果试图排除A选项，还有其他的线索吗？

还是不明白, 选项A的句子结构就有问题嘛

                            will enable them to(here I can not understand what the Subject is and if the Subject is clear, it indicates that the sentence is wrong because in this case this sentence has two Subjects…)
                        understand how the solar system formed some four billion years ago.

主句是主谓宾, 然后跟着现在分词结构表连续不断的伴随动作,疑问就在于后面的WILL ENABLE THEN TO的主语是什么? 如果是measurements的话, 就太费解了...

for doing 和 to do只是一个相对性错误，也就是说两个都可能是答案，但一般后者优于前者

而“谓语专一”原则就是绝对性错误了，A选项中的that引导的从句，有两个谓语，hope和will，缺少连词，所以肯定是错的

而c中的是两个句子并列，用and连接，后面等于是另一个主句，所以they指代主语scientists是没有问题的

今天看到这题，个人感觉还是a比较好

原因：

1）从句子的整体结构看，明显a比c要好，逻辑通顺的多

The Near Earth Asteroid Rendezvous (NEAR) spacecraft will orbit the asteroid Eros for a year, slowly moving closer to the surface of the object to make ever more precise measurements that scientists hope will enable them to understand how the solar system formed some four billion years ago.

a中以slowly moving开头的现在分词结构修饰前面的(NEAR) spacecraft will orbit ，而这个分词结构中又用that引导的定语从句修饰measurements，整个结构清晰，简洁。

而c中and结构前后明显鸡同鸭讲，而且两分句主语之间的夹分词结构这种用法很容易引起“夹心修饰”的问题。

2）前面的争议主要在于复数代词they和them的指代是否清晰，og和gwd中是有不少题目涉及 N1...N2＋they（them）的情况，但这只是一个有效性错误，可以说明这点的例子很多，比如：

GWD30-Q17:
By the same techniques used for genetically enhancing plants, making them disease- or pest-resistant, researchers have been able to increase the amount of protein in potatoes, sweet potatoes, and tobacco.

3）hope和will连用，that是可以省略的，这点虽然不记得是在哪里看到，而且有口语化的嫌疑，但前辈找到的GWD题干基本可以说明问题。

这样的话, A似乎好理解多了...似乎可以将这个"that the company hopes"理解为插入语...
