这题实在不好选，但偶选D，大家再帮忙看看。。。

1)      they assigned to do(they不知指谁，而且这里作定语从句根本不需要初补出主语，排除)

2)      to be assigned doing (to be有将来的意思，这里应该是修饰committee,要不直接用分词，要不用定从。排除)

3)   that was being assigned doing (was being一看就很不顺眼，GMAT考试应该不怎么prefer这种用法，而且觉得assign doing不对，排除)

4)   assigned for doing (虽然感觉assign to do比较对，但for同样可以表目的，算是better的选项吧)

5)   it assigned to do (错误同1)

虽然版主有很好的看法，但是国外考800的传奇人物，都选E!

我觉得也是选E，因为：

A they没有指代

B 没有查到有assign doing的用法

C 没有查到有assign doing的用法；而且was being过去进行时，但原句中没有证据表明要用过去进行时；

D use for doing用得不对啊，By the standards of North American idioms, "for doing" will pretty much never be correct；

E it只能指代the White House，这个没有问题！

外国两个大牛，考GMAT800的，都支持E!

应该是name sb chairperson of committee (that) it assigned to do a report
定语从句，it 指代白宫

好想選 assigned to.....但最後我還是prefer  3)   assigned for doing.....不知道對不對

定语从句里，that 不能指代人吧？？？

我感觉也选(3)，即便要用assign to do也只能选（3）了，Gmat里面不是说：不一定选全对的，但是要选比较而言相对合适的一个嘛？
