Topic37 Is progress is always good?
It is generally accepted that our world has dramatically changed by the modern science and technology over the last decades, and human has made extraordinary progress in technology and methods .No one can deny the fact that progresses make our life more comfortable and less laborious. But I can hardly fully agree with the topic: progress is always good.
   There is no denying that some progresses exert positive effects on our life. Let‘s take the transportation for example, long before the car was invented, the people who want to go somewhere far had to ride a horse which is uncomfortable and slow. But now it is much easier to do so, especially after the plane was invented. You can go most of places of the world within 24 hours. Another example is communication, I have heard a funny story, a man sent a mail to his wife when he was abroad, but the mail fail to arrive before the man’s back. In this situation, the mail is useless. Thanks for the progress; we can worry no more about the matter because we can use a phone to keep touch with our friends easily. Furthermore, we even have a free and effective means of communication---E-mail.
   However, just as an old saying goes: ' Everything has two sides.' Along with the benefits of such progress, many serious problems also occur. Again, take the car as an example, it causes traffic jams as well as air pollution which is an extremely serious problem can not only cause global warm but also could threaten to end the human live on our planet. This problem has caused wild public concern and authorities have been taking strong measures to deal with it but it seems to be not so effective. What's more, the development of weapons is really rather bad news. More powerful the weapon is, more dangerous the world is. We are all afraid that, one day we will destroy the earth by ourselves.
   From what has been discussed above, we can safely draw a conclusion that not all progress is good, thought some of them indeed promote the improvement of modern society.
