2 意思转折,and没有表达出来

1. 虚拟语气:
   would ... , if ... were
   would have..., if ...had done...
2. yet = but
  ( adhere) to one another, beating in (unison) , but
   adopting (specialized) orientations (exclusive of one another) =〉这两层是形成对比转折的,都是分词形式的状语
4. 这句话是这样的:
he was a small-town Midwesterner who was thrust into a world that was dominated by wealthier, better-educated, and more polished people than he was (...people)
如果改成him说明比较的是by him;而此不比较状语
5. 这里要用anyone, 因为后面的must
    而另一个anyone 选项破坏并列结构。
