一道语法

Balzac drank more than fifty cups of coffee a day and died of caffeine poisoning; furthermore, caffeine did not seem to bother Samuel Johnson, the great writer and lexicographer, who was reported to have drunk twenty-five cups of tea at one sitting.
(A) furthermore, caffeine did not seem to bother
(B) however, caffeine did not seem to bother
(C) however, caffeine did not seem to have bothered
(D) furthermore, caffeine did not seem to have bothered
(E) in addition, caffeine did not seem to bother
答案是B,但是seem to bother 和seem to have bothered的区别是什么呢,为什么前者在这里适用?be known to do和be known to have done?

我覺得..因為seem to have bothered這種句型是表"推測"用的..而這裡是敘述事實吧
