The department also refuses to award a terminal master degree to her. Zihui had a 3.6 GPA. The only requirement unfulfilled for a master degree is a research paper. As we explained before, a master thesis had been submitted but had never been graded on.

We appeal to the Duke university leadership to review Zihui’s case. Like all of us, a young person came to Duke with great expectation and she has to leave with a 3-year “black hole” on her record. We demand a transparent, fair, independent evaluation of her work towards a master’s degree as proper recognition of her completed academic work.

We appeal to the Duke university leadership to clarify and educate graduate students (especially international students) on graduate school policies and regulations and make certain that all departments follow those rules. For example, the history department gave Zihui a 10-month probation, which should end by April 2006. Zihui had believed that she was out of the wood until the department suddenly dismissed Zihui on June 27, 2006. A clear procedure should be followed instead of “Brownian motion” experienced by Zihui.

We appeal to all department leaderships to consider students’ interest when they give advices. For example, Zihui could have finished a terminal master degree instead of trying to get back on PhD program. Based on history department regulation, she only need to write 2 seminar papers (20-30 pages) coming out of any typical graduate courses to fulfill the master degree requirement. She could have done that in a few months instead of staying on one more year and end with a nightmare.

We appeal to all graduate and professional students to support Zihui’s effort to have her case reviewed (History Graduate Students Association is supporting Zihui’s appeal). Zihui had appealed to graduate school and provost office for the past few months and had been exhausted physically and emotionally. We are very concerned about her and hope she can unite with her parents soon and move on with her life. With your support, we hope this matter can be resolved in a timely manner.

We appeal to the professors of this great university to have tolerance on their graduate students to have different opinions. Confucianists believe that
  the relationship between students and teachers follow the model of father-son relationship (“Be a teacher once, be a father for life”). We appeal to professors in history department: Give Zihui a chance. Be a father. Be a teacher.

Application Tips and Insights

Application season can be a busy time of year, as prospective students around the world reach out to recommenders, study for the GMAT, and begin writing their essays. To assist you as you prepare for The Duke MBA application, we have highlighted key application-related activities and provided some tips below. For a quick list of Application “Fast Tips,” read along the left hand column.

Application Deadlines

The Duke MBA has three deadlines for application. All application materials must be submitted no later than the deadline date to be considered for that round. If an application is submitted later, or is incomplete, the application will be moved to the following round. This year’s application deadlines are:

Interviews and Campus Visits

Every applicant is invited to interview with a Duke MBA representative. Interviews give you the opportunity to interact with a current student, alumnus, or admissions staff member, to explain your interest in The Duke MBA, and to provide a different view of your credentials to the admissions committee. Interviews are not required for admission, but are highly recommended. Applicants who live on the west coast of the U.S. or in international locations have the option of requesting an alumni interview.

1. 在英语国家学习过2年，就可以免TOEFL成绩。你的情况应该可以免的。不过免除TOEFL需要Admission Office的认可，你需要联系他们。

2. 需要寄原件给学校。至少去年是这么规定的。

Duke越看越喜欢！

可能没有仔细看，问一个关于课程改革的问题：是不是06年开始，就有14个concentration，每个学生只能选一个，毕业证书上会注明是哪个。但其实每个concentration一般要求必修4科，选修2科就够了，如果还是按照之前得课程结构（one year two-semester four-term)理解，一个term就差不多学4门，2年下来好歹也能学个20多门课，难道6门之外的就全部是自己选修了。还是说，第一年好多基础课其实都是必修，另外再加上concentration的6门。

本人有8年工作经验，6年在finance（big 4)，2年在business。mba毕业后想从事private equity or venture capital，其实不知道应该选择Entrepreneurship and Innovation or Concentration in Finance (Investment)，另外，感觉Decision Sciences，strategy, marketing都会很有帮助，不太明白应该怎么写why duke?能否请各位blue devils帮忙解答一下，不胜感激！
