如果what 是指恐龙,那bones 在从句中做蜜哩? 那位nn 帮忙还原一下该从句,解剖一下成分.

"what" means dinosaur, there is no question about that.  Also,  还原句子is not the issue here, and it is impossible to do so because it is already a simple and clear sentence itself.  Sometimes we don't have to think too much.

Personally, I take D as a more succint and consice form of idiomatic expression.

"what it was" is wordy and redundant. If "what it was" is omitted, the meaning of the sentence remains the same and will not be distorted.

For E, "what it was" it 指代不明。而且E的意思不对。题目是说“非西班牙白人”变成“少数人“了E是说“比十几年前降低了3/4”这不能说明十几年前“非西班牙白人”是“多数人 “。但是D中人口的“3/4“，表明多数。很清晰。
