我还是不明白为什么选A，知道所缺的词应和spawned平行，我觉得选B更好点。搞不明白为什么要用现在进行时态？是因为这个家伙还一直在长着么？

spawned 是被动形式修饰tentacles而非动词过去式，是be spawned by a single fertilized spore
与之对称，extend应用ing形式同起修饰作用

spawned 和 extending都是用来修饰that is后面的成分，描述这一成分的状态,spawned, extending并列修饰这一成分，一个是被动，一个是主动

If you want "extend," I can do it for you:

210. Scientists have recently discovered what could be the largest and oldest living organism on Earth, a giant fungus that is an interwoven filigree of mushrooms and rootlike tentacles that are spawned by a single fertilized spore some 10,000 years ago and that
  extend for more than 30 acres in the soil of a Michigan forest.

Since the above sentence has two "that" clauses, it is not that good, so changing it into two 分词 从句 is better.  That's the reason why we have A as the correct choice.
