Darden - Wahoowah!

I can see Darden students are very warmhearted. Yorkzhong and others answer the questions patiently even though they have very busy schedule.

I am from one of the Ministries in Beijing and worked three years in Beijing and three years in the Philippines. I have some experience with  Chinese overseas investments. One career goal is to work in World Bank or UNDP.  Another goal is to promote Chinese overseas investments. Which fit in well with Darden.

I have some leadership experience and good command of English. The problem for me is my T/G are a bit low: Internet based TOEFL is 106 (Reading 28, Listening 27, speaking 26, writing 25), GMAT(M 50, V30). I only had three days to prepare for TOEFL and three weeks for GMAT.

Should I apply the second round or wait for the third round after getting a high GMAT score. I heard that the number of applicants doubled that of last year in the first round. (I think it is partly because of the good publicity of Darden students hear )Please advise.

是不是可以说一个failure的experience, and what I learned from that?

Hi - thanks for the encouragement, I think every Darden people are willing to take time to help as much as possible.

For the GMAT, what's your exat GMAT total score? looks like it's some where around 700 (M50, V30), if that's the case, don't worry about it, it's fine enough.

For the TOEFL, I don't know about the new system. But my score was 611 (under paper test system). just FYR

I think you can. People learn much from failure, and only through learning you are getting mature.

Yes, you can. But better to focus on addressing what you've learned & what improvement you've made after that.

• 二、准备在Charolettesville住一晚，Darden网站上列了下面这些旅馆，不知哪几家价廉物美而且离校园近（最好步行就可以到达），一般价位是多少。Sponsors Hall,Boar's Head Inn,Cavalier Inn,Clifton Inn,Comfort Inn,Courtyard by Marriott,Days Inn,Doubletree Hotel,English Inn,The Foxfield Inn,Hampton Inn and Suites,Hampton Inn,Holiday Inn University Area,Keswick Hall,Omni Hotel,Red Roof Inn,Residence Inn,Silver Thatch Inn,South Street Inn.

• 三、除上午面试外，与二年级学生午餐和旁听课等活动是否需提前预约。

• 四、我可不可以提前电话问面试人的姓名?Darden面试有什么特别需要注意的地方？

• There is an Amtrek station in downtown Charlottesville, not too far away but definitely not one that you can reach Darden by foot.  I guess taxi fare should be within $15.

• 二、准备在Charolettesville住一晚，Darden网站上列了下面这些旅馆，不知哪几家价廉物美而且离校园近（最好步行就可以到达），一般价位是多少。Sponsors Hall,Boar's Head Inn,Cavalier Inn,Clifton Inn,Comfort Inn,Courtyard by Marriott,Days Inn,Doubletree Hotel,English Inn,The Foxfield Inn,Hampton Inn and Suites,Hampton Inn,Holiday Inn University Area,Keswick Hall,Omni Hotel,Red Roof Inn,Residence Inn,Silver Thatch Inn,South Street Inn.

• I believe the closest is Sponsor's Hall, it's right next to Darden.  Another choice is Cavalier Inn.  You can definitely reach Darden by foot and I recently host a prospective student from Taiwan and he stayed in Cavalier Inn and loved it.

• You've got to check that with the Admission Office.  But I believe as next week is the exam week and therefore there is no class for you to visit (that's too bad because Darden's class experience is definitely an eye opening one).

• You've got to check that with the Admission Office as well. Just be yourself and relax.  Darden interview is very casual and informal.

• 五、面试的往返交通与住宿费用是否全部自己解决，Darden能不能负担一部分？

• I don't think Darden sponsors interview expenses.

When you finalize your trip details, you can email me (NgK08@darden.virginia.edu) to see if I or other first years can pick you up at either the airport or the train station.  I guess all first year will not be available in the morning though as we have our exams in next week.
