为什么不是C?

left fossil traces这个动作正是presume的宾语. A中having left做定语修饰life forms, 那presume的宾语即是such life forms. 要presume的不是life form, 而是left fossil traces.

B中的if it is不是很wordy吗? 而且whether can重意了? whether those trace exist或can those trace exist就可以了, 为什么要whether can呢?
