OG 113 & modify

113. Visitors to the park have often looked up into the leafy canopy and saw monkeys sleeping on the branches, whose arms and legs hang like socks on a clothesline.
(A)saw monkeys sleeping on the branches, whose arms and legs hang
(B)saw monkeys sleeping on the branches, whose arms and legs were hanging
(C)saw monkeys sleeping on the branches, with arms and legs hanging
(D)seen monkeys sleeping on the branches, with arms and legs hanging
(E)seen monkeys sleeping on the branches, whose arms and legs have hung

answer is D. why E is not? the explanation from OG: whose clause has been separated from monkeys. But "whose" is, of course, for monkeys, can anyone think that the sub-clause modify the "branches"?
As the answer D, who knows "with arms and legs" is modifying "branches" or "monkeys" -- therefor, answer D can arise confusion also.

Need your input!

E主要错在动词及其时态have hung,见OG的解释:
Choices A and E also confusingly use the present tense hang and the present perfect have hung, respectively; neither verb conveys clearly that, at the time the monkeys were spotted sleeping, their arms and legs were hanging in the manner described.

D中的“with arms and legs”也不是modifying "branches" or "monkeys"而是modify “sleeping”作状语。

由逗号分隔的现在分词可以做状语,也可以作定语,没有统一的规则来判断,只能根据意思来。

"With....."conveys clearly that, at the time the monkeys were spotted sleeping, their arms and legs were hanging in the manner described.

难道我们就只有从意思上去判断吗?

还是不明白, whose易引起混淆, why with 就不会那? "whose"  refer to "monkeys" or "branches"?   As the answer D, who knows "with arms and legs" is modifying "branches" or "monkeys" or "sleeping"?

solves the problem of the whose ... clause by using the appropriately placed adverbial phrase with arms and legs hanging... to modify sleeping.   why "adverbial phrase with arms and legs hanging..." solves the problem ?

继续请教? thanks

我理解是whose做定语从句要紧跟先行词money,否则ETS并不喜欢这种挂在后面的用法, 好像只看到用with---来表示伴随状况的放在句尾或者句首来修饰的。

如果把E选项改为whose arms and legs are hanging ,这样不知道E能够也算正确呢?

我覺得還是不太對

,whose 修飾 monkeys有  所有monkeys不管有沒有在睡覺的   arms and legs are hanging
