The answer given is E. 大家讨论一下. E里的other than what it is怎么看着那么wordy呢.不象是正确答案啊.
C好象有that修饰不明的问题. D,E有to be... B里面的but which is太傻了, 看来看去好象只有A了...可是A里的it又太...唉!

第一 （D）it 指代问题 既可以指telephone又可指radio ;be变为become这点我觉得改变了原句的意思而且是从一般现在变为现在完成时态 present perfect tense indicates actions continuing from the past to the present , however, as far as I am concerned, in the problem, it implies simply a comparision between the past and the current...therefore, we should use the present tense to show a current situation but not the perfect tense to show continuning actions.

第二 这点没有什么有力的根据 就是个人的感觉 GMAC很喜欢独立主格结构 如果把这个结构破坏而用定语从句结构的话 那岂不是此地无银三百两

猛醒，选C，解释如下：

“a tool for private conversation” 必须跟在radio后面，而不是telephone后面。因为句子意思是说radio成为了一个与公众交流的工具而不是电话一样的私下交流工具，因此，a tool for private conversation 必须与 a tool for large..audience形成对照，因为他们都是radio的特性对比。如果跟在telephone后面就成了对电话特性的解释，没有形成概念的转折，这是从句子意思上理解。

先不说conceived as 和to be谁对，单看D中的 a substitute for the telephone, which has become的意思是说telephone变成了公共交流工具，这肯定是不对的。

因此C是答案
