Yes. Both Stanford and Harvard prefer younger applicants. And if you have 2.5 year work experience now, you will have around 4-year w/E till your enrollment, which is acceptable to all b-schools. So, don't worry about that.

Don't worry. I know some of our CBSF member joined top-10 programs with only 3 years W/E.

I am curious how could I have 4yr working experience if I will apply for 2004 Fall. Can u tell me how to calculate that number?

BTW, besides Harvard and Stanford, is there any other school prefre young applicants also?

Thanks a million~~~~

usually the w/e is calculated upto the matriculation, which is about Sep or Aug next year. So if you have 2.5 yr now, you will have 3.5 yr by then.

It also depends on the quality of the w/e, if you have solid w/e, 3.5 is fine.

H/S are two schools who especially favor young applicants. Some schools favor applicants with more w/e, such as wharton, michigan.

I only have one year w/e in New York R&D of an mid-size company by now and will have 2 years w/e by the time of matriculation, the company is not famous and my work is not management. I am preparing for Yale and NYU, any chance? should I try HBS and MIT? My GMAT 750, no T, GPA3.4-3.5 from under in China and MS in the states.

To be honest, I think it is going to be tough for you. For Harvard, it really depends on your experience. Harvard favors applicants with stellar leadership potential. You don't have to have the title, but you need to show your potential. For example, did you influence others ant get substantial results? did you stand out for your belief when you are questioned and challenged? did you create great new ideas and turn them into reality? You need to show your leadership trajetory, i.e., how your leadership grew. Since you did not introduct your college experience, and extracurricular activities, it is a tough call. MIT does not favor applicants with few w/e. I am not quite sure about Yale and NYU. Maybe someone else can provide help.

Thanks for your information. Yes, I know my w/e is too too weak, however, my college activities are excellent, two entrance examination waiver for both under and graduate, although I had my MS here instead, president in student organizations, blahblahblah, those are the only hard management skill, although in work I can still find one or two cases in which my leadership or more precisely, decision making ability, can be shown.
