以下是引用Jordan8305在2006-4-14 9:47:00的发言:今天上午联系模版的时候写ARGUMENT只找到了两点可写.....不知道哪位能看出第三点问题?谢谢. "This past winter, 200 students from Waymarsh state college traveled to the state capitol building to protest agains proposed cuts in funding for various state college programs. The other12, 000 Waymarsh students evidently weren't so concerned about their education: they either stayed on campus or left for winter break. Since the group who did not protes is far more numerous, it is more representative of the state's college students than are the protesters. Therefore, the state legislature need not heed the appeals of the protesting students. 1. The author presumed that only students who were concerned about the proposed funding cuts came to protest in front of the capital building. This is not necessarily true. Other students might also be concerned about the funding cuts, but could not participate the protest for reasons, say other private or academic engagments. ......
2. The author presumed if the number of protesters did not exceed the number of students who did not participate in the protest, this meant the protesters' view was not representative of the overall student population. It's possible that the travel from Waymarsh state college invoked considerable financial cost and only some representatives were sent there to launch the protest. .....
3. The author presumed the state legislature responded to appeals only if the appeals were supported by a majority of the stakeholder population. While this could be true in many cases, there are however instances in which a few/minority of people presense the coming of trouble before a majority of the population wakens up to the fact. The legislature should base its decision about whether to heed an appeal on factors such as social justice, the state laws, etc., instead of on the number of protesters.
4. There are better means for the state to find out whether a majority of students were concerned about the funding cutting---that is to do a student survey. ...... |
