well, once you can get a job, you are paid by what you can do. my boss has an undergraduate degree, no MBA, he got paid a lot higher than I have.

the problem here is whether you can get hired. that is why I bring up that scenario. Everybody who has lived in US for a while knows how American think about Canadian. I think it is stupid, but it seems to be widely accepted: Canadians are dumb people.

So far, most my friends suggested me to forego Rotman in favor of BU. Given my perference of working in the States after the MBA graduation, BU might be a wise choice. BU offers me a larger scholarship too.

However, I still dont want to drop Rotman, after all its alumni network is powerful in the field of Finance in Canada, which can make valuabe resourse for my future career if I stay in Canada. In addition, Rotman's ranking is much better than BU's based on Financial Times. To be honest, I am confused by the idea that the ranking can be ignored because it's a Canadian school. Top Canadian schools < = 2 tired US schools? What about the ranking?

Please help me sort my thoughts. Like many of others, I am dying to make a sound decision. Thanks!

Happy Birthday to CD!

shoot! Just deleted everything when I were editing. Anyway, my 2 cents. wanna stay in Canada, definitely choose Rotman; wanna work in US, go for BU or any other decent US schools.

to sum up based on experts'comments here:

1. Try not to compare US and Canadian MBAs since they basically work for two different markets. Or, we say US MBAs stay in US and Canadian MBAs stay in Canada (exception may be the big three in USA). So, we may just ingore the global ranking like FT when we woul like to stay in USA, Canada, or EU. Of course, ranking for each country or region could still be refered.

2. If you go back to China, choose a school with good reputation and network in China, whether this school is Canada (maybe like Ivey, Toronto, ...) or US (say Harvard, Yale, Maryland....). Again, don't do much comparison among schools from different countries, which would be a headache, hehe.

Bricks are welcome.

Well, it's really a tough decision to make depending on your location preference and career goal. However, the attempt to judge two schools based only on FT is definitely questionable. While top schools are still ranked top in this list, can you believe that ceibs is ahead of darden and cornell? FT is just trying to design a methodology so that UK schools (except lbs) can be ranked higher than they deserve. the ranking of other schools are just by-product to FT.

In your case, if you plan to work in canada, then ut will bring you more prestige. but elsewhere, both are similar in terms of reputation. good luck

I understand that Rotman would be a safe choice for me if I stay in Canada. But I perfer to work in the States. BU is a riskier option for the chance of a post-MBA job is lower. After all I will be an international candidate in the job market. In the worse scenario, I will be forced to come back to Canada and a BU degree might not as good as an Rotman degree.

Sorry to be such a pain.
