them refers to mountainous regions rather than to monastries
so ,C,D change the original meaning of the clause

2,a revolutionary advantage refer to the whole clause before it
  so A is better than C because of conciseness
this subject reminds of another one

A中的Many of them 当然不是对应 the mountainous regions，逻辑不通。THEN应当指代monasteries。
E是的many of them 出现在“monasteries，”后面，是monasteries的同位语。怎么会有歧义呢？
