I would like to answer the questions:
1.Did you make a major change in essays for your second try?
yes, i did make a major change for my second try, because I found that I had not figured out what I want to do in the future in my previous application. Having a clear pic in my mind is really important, because this is actually the key to answer those questions "why mba","why this school", and "why now"...someone might say this is not important, since not all the admitted have a clear pic. Yes, but only partly right...It is probably true that not all the admitted know what they want to do in the future and you may also say that they mnight change their minds before graduation; however, it is almost firm that you won't have any chance if you DO NOT have a clear mind and can only rely on your luck for your application...Having a clear mind on your short term and long term goal will make it easy to answer all the question, because every question of the essays can be and should be answered according to your goal. Also, we need to know more about the schools: what is the mission of the school( their long term goal, such as the mission of HBS is to develope future leaders that can change the world ), what makes it stand out from other schools? why should we choose it? these questions are always asked by them to us when they evaluate us, so we should ask ourselves as well when we evaluate them... When you know the answers to these questions, you will know how to write the essays and also you will know which school is really your first choice.
2.What did you do to improve your competitency? (The time in bwteen is less than a year, is it too short to make major change)
First of all, i took the TOEFL again, since my last one was bad 620/4.0. I took it again in HK for CBT which I have never taken.. really nervous!!haha.. but the score came out to be good: 287/5.5. big improvement, right? I had to take it since my AWA is only 3.0, although my gmat is 750...I think this is actually one of the main reasons that they dinged me last year...
also, I changed my work, promoted to work in HK in a new division...
3.Did you change the short term/long term goals of MBA?
Yes, I did CHANGE it. Actually, I didn't have it at all last year..aha!
this time I mainly changed my short term goal, making it more straight forward in plain words, because I don't think they have much time to digest our profound words..my short term goal is so clear that I want to join a specific firm after my graduation...clear enough, right? but we have to make it reasonable and logical in our essay...
hopefully the above answer will be useful to you...anyway, good luck to you! |
