One more question, what is the subject in such cases as a group of lawyers, a panel of researchers?

我觉得the patchwork of green fields 是集体名词应该是用复数，就像说the poor are.....一样。类似a group of lawyers, a panel of researchers也应该是复数。
18题是把Hollywood movie 和the country’s apparent new-found affluence 做比较，后面的set with nothing behind the building fronts是定语修饰Hollywood movie ，Hollywood movie 并不是set 的动作执行者。而如果用just as 的话，应该是采用just as A do sth, so B do sth.的结构。
不知对不对，一点个人意见而已。

For 15, as A says, "...bustles...", it is obvious that the patchwork of green fields is treated as singular noun. I think this question is very tricky.

同意，JUST AS后面跟句子，而LIKE后面跟名词或名词短语。

在the patchwork of green fields that surround中that surround是修饰fields而非patchwork 。
从逻辑上，patchwork不可能surround the San Joaquin Valley town，因为它是零碎的。只能是连续不断的fields 才能surround the San Joaquin Valley town。
这个题目的确很TRICKY。
