以下是引用powerpig在2006-1-12 7:18:00的发言:

I have a focused career goal - to get into the VC industry for High Tech. Any advice on this field would be welcome (in school or after school). I am pretty familiar with UM though, since my wife has been there for years. Actually, I believe I know Ann Arbor more than her, since I am always the driver. One Specific Question: How hard it is to get into the student board of WVF?

Wow, you got me on that one.  I was never interested in VC so did not do career search in that area (I went the uncreative consulting/marketing track).  Would imagine getting involved with the WVF would be tremendously helpful.  In addition, ZLI and/or the Entrepreneur club run conferences and business idea competitions every year.  Winners of the competition actually get some (read: very limited) funding from VCs.  articipating in those events should give you some networking opportunities.  David Brophy gives a PE class every year.  I haven't heard rave comments on the class but he might have some contacts in PE/VC that you can try to network with.  If you are that focused in VC, I suggest you contact the adcom now and asked to be put in touch with a current student who has similar career goal.  Trust me, it's never too early to start preparing for your job search.

WVF: my impression was that it was pretty competitive to get selected to the student board.  You have to offer some expertise.  The two friends from my class that was selected, one of them was an investment banker from a midwest firm, and the other was an MD/MBA dual degree pursuer.

I want to sell you on Ross but I also want to be honest.  It will be much tougher to get into VC from Michigan than from, say Stanford or Harvard, particularly if you have no finance/banking experience prior to school.  If that is your career goal and you can get into a school with better pedigree, by all means choose that over Ross.  If Ross is your best choice, then network hard, and early.
