I
had alumni interview in Beijing. The questions are all focused on my
resume. He asked a lot about almost each detailed line in my resume.
But the one question he asked the most is why Chicago, what can
convince him that if I am admitted, I will go. He even cornered me to
list the strengths of Chicago over Wharton. (Turned out his concern is
correct ;)

My suggestion is really to know the school well. Know
which professor you like, which classes you think are specifically
linked to your career goal. Also logic is very important. They will buy
your story if they think it is reasonable.

Thanks for the insight, just curious which school would you pick, wharton or chicago?

So can I assume that the interviewer did not see your application files, so only talked with you basing on the resume of you?

Btw, could you give some ideas about the advantages of Chicago over Wharton?

Many thanks

I don't think they read my essay or resume. The interviewer just got my resume and read it for 5 minutes and asked me a lot of questions about career, why MBA, why chicago, career goal and stuff...

About Chicago over wharton, I don't think it's the right question here. Everybody choose a school because it fits their own needs. So you don't have to say that one school is better than another, but you have to convince them that this one is more for you!

I think Chicago is specific in it's own way: the freedom it offers to students to choose their own curriculum without any required courses in the first year is suitable for people with a very clear goal and know want they want. Also the strong academic fundamental is worth mentioning. I listed the classes that are related to my career goal. And he happened to take that course, so the conversation went very smoothly...

Thanks very much.  Got admitted by Wharton and Chicago, you know both of the B-schools very well.

i graduated from Chicago. it's boring as hell. Stanford, wharton and harvard are so much better.

Sure, better for you maybe, but not necessarily for everyone else. Also, U of C is so different from the Chicago GSB, basically, two schools. I sympathize you for having a bad personal experience, but please do not over-generalize. Or, you will be just producing a bad impression of yourself, not the school.

Anyway, LZMM, congrats!
