多大读法学院算太晚了？

偶今年25，女生。偶打算27左右出去读JD，不过估计得曲线救国。所以等拿到JD degree,最年轻也得30好几了。

年纪估计是大了些，期间朋友们肯定飞黄腾达的人不在少数。如果这是成本和收益的问题，真的得好好算算，我也希望有哪位达人可以给我明确的答案。可是，我觉得这还是个人选择的问题。如果JD是你的梦，朝着梦想前进吧！

那时读LLM的时候，law school有很多40以上的人。

确实是,问了许多LLM的同学和JD 学生,全部的人都说早点去读.但是不想给家里太大经济压力了,而且我读JD的目的也不是为了当律师,所以这只是我个人想法.

还是那句话， 能早读就早读。 但是如果你年纪大了， 一样可以， 只是你对人生的见解可能不一样， 因此在法学院里选的方向不一样

I have a classmate who is over 50. He has a clinic and has been a physician more than 20 years. AGE is not a problem! As a matter of fact, I would say financial situation is really the most important thing that you should seriously consider, esp, for those people who have married. JD is part of life, but not the entire life.

I'm thankful to have "young" genes and I live in a big city and go out often (my mom looks 15 years her junior at 67, too), so there was no real reason to expect it from me, I guess. HOWEVER, I always told people my age and felt more in step with most of my professors than my classmates. I have become good friends with several of my professors who saw me more as a colleague than a student, I think. I appreciated that. I found that most (but not all) of my friends were in the evening section even though I was in the day section - and they were "older" students for the most part. Granted I know that most of the younger students in my section were worried that the older student in our section (late 40's I'm guessing) was going to do a lot better than they did. There were lots of older people. You won't be out of place at all, even in your 50s - there's be at least a handful of other students your age (and many above 40). The little kids there are generally friendly and mature enough to be able to hold a real conversation with you. I am actually still finishing my undergrad degree, but I will be 39 in the fall of 2008, which is when I am hoping and praying to start as a 1L. I feel more confident at this age. I also feel smarter; I always thought I was pretty smart when I was younger, but now I guess it's all of the WISDOM that I've gained in life that the "youngin's" do not have. AT ALL. However, I'm far from the oldest in the class and several students who are "retiring" from one career to start another. I don't think most people realized it though, I still get carded, and when one student found out I had a 14 year old son he almost had a heart attack. Most of the students in the night program were my age or older, so no problems there. When I started the day program, I did notice a big difference in the students. Most of the students were fine, but I did find a higher bimbo element. Some were just kind of immature, lots of inappropriate outfits (unless they're planning to do hooker-law). They're mostly just your typical 20-somethings, like to party, etc., with a few really serious kids thrown in. It seems the older students were the ones who were really driven. They weren't just there because they couldn't figure out what to do with a liberal arts degree. I think the professors appreciated that any time they'd talk about the history surrounding various laws and questioned the students about it, I generally knew what they were talking about. People have honestly never heard of Bull Conner? REALLY??? Oy vey! I think the professors appreciate people who have a little knowledge of the world around them beyond Juicy Couture and the newest offering from Bacardi. Now about to go into my last year at 45, I am the oldest male student in the law school as a 50 year old male graduated this spring. There are a few older females law students. Prior to law school, I'd been through a divorce and some other major issues that I felt have "seasoned" me a bit. It's funny, but a lot of my friends from law school were in their 30s and in some cases 40s and 50s. I gravitated toward the more mature crowd because I could care less about next Friday's keg party or whatever. I wouldn't worry about age AT ALL if I were you. Truth is, a lot of people go to law school later in life. We had people in their 50s, doctors who were pursuing second careers or additions to their current ones, we had tons of engineers, we had the whole gamut of people who had been there, done that and were taking it all to law school You'll be fine, I guarantee it. And honestly, having a little life experience behind you is SO helpful in law school. You're better able to tune out the immature crap from the younger crowd. You know why you're there and where you're headed. And I've got a toddler. I met a good number of older students (30s and 40s) at the admitted students day. We sort of gravitated to each other. I suspect that you will find, as in all places, that there are great people and not-so-great people,(or more accurately, people you like and people you don't--who may also be great people but annoying) and that age probably isn't the main determinant of who falls into which category. That being said, I made an effort to get the Dean (who also has a young child) to organize a social event before school starts specifically for students with families and kids (since most of us didn't really want to do the happy hours the younger/single incoming 1Ls have attended). And I'm someone who is known for somewhat "baring" evening ensembles! But I never wore a crop top and mini skirt to SCHOOL. I don't think the 'kids' realized that I had 8-10 years on them. I enjoyed socializing, and enough of the people at my school are at least 25+ so it didn't seem so strange. FWIW, there are several over 50s in my class. Those that spouted off incessantly in first semester 1L were not treated very well; those who tried to answer the question when called on and who shared *relevant* info were treated like champs. Then again, that probably had little to do with age.
