(B) In spite of his right hand and arm being crippled by a sniper’s bullet during the First World War（这里的句意是要表达“因为”他的右手伤掉了，才导致了他画画的技艺反而提高了，因此要用because而不是in spite of）

(D) The right hand and arm being crippled by a sniper’s bullet during the First World War

(E) His right hand and arm crippled by a sniper’s bullet during the First World War

B选项OG的注解为什么说句意是：Choice B is awkward and changes the meaning of the original statement: the point is that Pippin’s method of painting arose because of, not in spite of, his injury. 可是我读句子的时候理解的是尽管他的手上了，他还是通过用右手握刷等方法画画。所以我认为应该用in spite of而不是because,为什么我这样理解不正确的？请各位指教应该怎么正确判断这类句型。谢谢！！

我觉得不应该首先从句子意思去判断，因为我们开始并不知道ETS要表达什么意思

这题b项语法上就有问题，in spite of后面似乎不能跟句子，并且这个being也是awkward的；另外看到最后就知道ETS在这里实际上是要考独立主格结构。

总之，这道题还轮不到从意思上去判断，排除语法上的硬伤就足够了。并且从整个OG来看，要靠揣摩句子意思来选择的时候还不多。

being的出现一般就是错误的标志，除了前面是介词后面是被动的情况。

in spite of一定程度改变了句子意思，加了“尽管”的意思
