Would you give me some tips about how to figure out the argument?  What is the central meaning of the question? I was never so puzzled about a AWA toplics like this. Thanks.

The following appeared in a letter to the editor of a popular science and technology magazine.

"It is a popular myth that consumers are really benefiting from advances in agricultural technology. Granted -- consumers are, on the average, spending a decreasing proportion of their income on food. But consider that the demand for food does not rise in proportion with real income. Discuss how well reasoned.., etc.

Proportion of food is decreasing does not mean a better life in case of an increasing clothing cost.It's just my oppinion.
