根据古代科学，H的理论是A物质是在光线穿过真空的中间存在的。后来在证明了光波的一个特性，H的理论被JAM等等一些人推翻了，他们反对A存在的必要性。这个理论是被M的实验支持的，实验证明A可以不存在。这个实验影响了很多物理学家最终导致了爱因斯坦相对论的发展。有些物理学家也在用现在的模型重新解释A的概念。
