Hi, I got admitted to Yale SOM EMBA and Columbia Business School EMBA recently. Not sure which one I should attend, I live in New York City, just 15mins from Columbia campus, pretty close to CBS.
Background: Now 6th-7th year in a global investment bank's banking/trading risk division. VP level employee. I would like to keep my job and possibility of being promoted in the next year or two. Bachelor in computer engineering from a state university, average GPA. Master in engineering from Columbia Engineering School, 3.7/4.0 GPA. Small team lead, 1-2 people managed.
Goal: front office role, closer to market/portfolio/deals team. Longer term, entrepreneurship possibly, talking to different people now, not quite sure yet.
Cost: Yale 190k. Columbia 230k.
Schedule: Yale, Friday and Saturday, alternative week, there is a cost on my work schedule and vacation. Columbia, every Saturday for two years. I like Columbia's schedule more, because I don't feel good to be OOO for 28days a year, which looks like a must for Yale's EMBA program.
Brandname: Yale>>Columbia, CBS>Yale SOM.
Commute: Yale - 1.5hours one way. Columbia - 15mins from my condo.
Student Profiles: Yale - average 13yr experience, typically 35yr old, 1/3 from finance industry, 1/3 from healthcare and 1/3 from energy/utilities/chemical industry. CBS - average 9 years experience, 80% financial professionals in NYC, 20% fashion/consulting, I have seen in our CBS EMBA LinkedIn group: 10 Morgan Stanley, 15 Google/FB/Amazon, 5 Goldman, 5 CS/UBS/JPM, a few more from hedge fund, and tech firms like Tesla and so on.
Curriculum: CBS - complete MBA in finance, everything you could learn in FinTech/PE/VC/IBD/Crypto/Entrepreneurship. 2 years, it can be extended to 2.5 if needed.
Yale - exactly same course as full time MBA, same professor and same TA, different time slot and classmates. More general management for consulting industry, surely it has finance course, but only for the second half of the program.
Which one you think it's better? I really need people to give me some advice on this. Also, what do you know about the reputation of both schools in America and in HK/China. Appreciate it. I left China when I was 18yr old, zero working experience in China.
Note, got Booth's admission too, I already turned down, no like flying weekly for two years.
