Passage1

结构:虽然比political的文章更接地气,但是不查单词的情况下,感觉结构就很松散,人名又很多;

1-3:主要围绕Clubhouse最近的热度,登顶APP榜首,Musk和VT在上面的对话引入了很多流量;
21-26:主要聚焦在对Clubhouse未来发展的探讨,是选择继续邀请制还是面向大众,以及来自互联网巨头的竞争风险;

生词:
viral病毒性的;boon福利;fused capital with content creation;looming逼近;ephemeral短暂的;be wary of持谨慎态度;spurt迸发;avid热心的;void空白的;impromptu即兴的;backdrop背景音乐

好句:
Clubhouse, the fastest-growing social media app in the world, has a familiar group to thank for its recent success: a tight-knit band of Silicon Valley insiders who have willed the company into virality.

Late last month, thousands of people tuned into a discussion between Elon Musk and Robinhood chief executive Vlad Tenev about the brokerage app’s controversial decision to limit trading in GameStop and other popular stocks.

compete with clones from deep-pocketed players and outlast the pandemic

The company has not settled on a business model, though its founders have discussed subscriptions, a move that could deter some people but also appeal to privacy-conscious users who are wary of ad-based networks.

Timing:

Passage2

主旨:传统观点认为经济增长的两个主要驱动因素是input和productivity,新的研究contradicted this view并引入科技因素,发现productivity和technological change才是主要因素;

2:RMS的研究引入了technological的变量,得出productivity or technological change 85%的相关性;

gauge估计/计量;circumspect小心谨慎的;

时间:
5min/10min(看着都认识。。

2,However ,Clubhouse

Circumspect adj.

Can viral app clubhouse break into the mainstream

Clubhouse, an audio-based social media app, has drawn the public’s attention this year and now its value reached at $1bn with it’s popularity. The passage focuses on the challenge it face and next step it will take.
1, what is clubhouse? It is an audio-based social media app, which could provide space for users to have an conversation. The app has ricocheted around the world now,drawing a great number of users’ attention.
2, What challenge does clubhouse face ?  Since it grows fast, it must prove that it can grow safely, compete with copycats and outlast the pandemic. Another challenged it faces recently is to address the explosive growth.
3, What’s next plan for clubhouse? Clubhouse has not formed clear business model yet, though its founders have discussed subscription. However, it is no doubt that it’s next step is to expand. But one concern has to be taken into account is that how to make a reasonable growth plan; since if clubhouse opens up to the general public too soon, it may lose its current users and eliminate the feeling of exclusivity generated by personal invites.
4, Despite challenges, the investors still have confidence in this fast-growing app.

Clubhouse, the fastest-growing social media app in the world, has a familiar group to thank for its recent success:…
Clubhouse has climbed up the rankings of app stores in countries from Germany to Japan, drawing new users to audio-based conversation “rooms” on topic ranging from entrepreneurship to local politics.
Tune into a discussion 收听
The conversation drew so much attention that some users resorted to viewing a YouTube stream after missing the room’s 5000-person cut-off

American Economic Growth

Background: two factors related to a country’s economy growth: production and productivity. => Traditional view: the use of additional inputs as the main source of economic growth => however, researchers found that only about 15 percent of the growth could be traced to the use of more inputs and it seems that additional inputs has little impact on economic growth

1,A country’s economy growth is associated with more factors of  production , such as labor and capital , and productivity. The traditional view is to add other inputs as the main source of economic growth. But the view was refuted by attempts in 1950’s.
2, Robert.M. Solow formulated the basic relation: an economy’s growth is the sum of the growths in the inputs of capital and labor as well as a third variable that represents the increases in factor productivity
3, The three variables are assumed to be independent in the original basic relation. In this way Solow and others found that around 85 percent of economy growth attributes to increases in productivity or technological change.
4, Moses had applied a similar technique and had found that simply increasing more inputs has little impact on a country’s economy growth

An economy’s growth is simply the sum of the growths in the inputs of capital and labor, each weighted by a coefficient reflecting its average contribution to the value of products , as well as a third variable that represents the increases in factor productivity.
生词
Loosely:
Circumspect: if you are circumspect, you are cautious in what you do and say and do not take risks,
