prep07关于的of+n.,doing...修饰问题

The cat of Lily, always running in the morning.这句话的running从结构上默认是修饰Lily还是of的从属主语cat呀？
回到prep07的真题。

During the same period in which the Maya were developing a hieroglyphic systemof writing, the Aztec people also developed a written language, not as highly sophisticated as that of the Maya, however, being more pictographicin nature.

这句话的being more pictographic在某网看到的解释说，因为not as highly sophisticated as that of the Maya和being more pictographic没有连接词，所以being more pictographic修饰Aztec people，所以这句话错误。但是一般来说，being more...这句话不应该修饰上一个小分句的末尾嘛？

我感觉应该是修饰Maya或者是that of Maya，到底是修饰language (of Maya), 还是修饰Maya呢？
如果这句话修饰that of Maya,且that指代的是语言，那么这句话语法上没有太大的问题。如果要排除选项就要通过比较其他的选项排除了。

楼主，你要看一下however你就知道being more是与之前的Aztec people那里对应，而不是在not as highly对应的旁枝末节上纠结了

因为not as highly sophisticated as...相当于一个插入语的成分，把这句话删除后，being more pictographicin nature紧接着前面那句话对吗？按理来说，从结构上看应该先考虑修饰句子的末尾的吧？

还是那个问题，首先要读懂句意，楼楼就不会在这里纠结了~ 说一下我看到这道题的做题思路:
During the same period in which the Maya were developing a hieroglyphic system of writing, the Aztec people also developed a written language, but it was not as highly sophisticated as that of the Maya and was more pictographic in nature.

but it was not as highly sophisticated as that of the Maya and was

B
but it was not as highly sophisticated as the Maya, being

C
but, not as highly sophisticated as the Maya's, was

D
not as highly sophisticated as that of the Maya, however, being

not as highly sophisticated as the Maya's however, it was

首先这句话的意思是，他们两种语言系统虽然在同一时间被发明，但是M的语言比A的语言更加复杂，并且更是象形文字。理解意思之后，可以发现这句话比较的是M的语言和A的语言，所以B可以排除，B是比较语言和M。
发现原句比较了两个：复杂性和象形性，从逻辑上是两个independent的比较方向，所以这里应该用and来连接两个不同的比较方向。
再看C项，是把复杂性当作了一个修饰语，C项的句子主干变成了仅仅比较象形性，意思改变，可以排除。
D项：把however放到划线部分的开头，就可以明白看清楚句子主干了：the Aztec people also developed a written language, however, not as highly sophisticated as that of the Maya, however, being...
可以发现这里的however后面是没有主语的，这里先后两个句子共用了第一个句子的主语the A people，就像楼楼那个答案里面说的

其实这道题读懂了意思几乎可以秒排，建议楼楼看看baby姐的经验分享~

more pictographic in nature肯定是说maya语。我只能说如果是我要写一个句子表达这个intended meaning我肯定写不出D里这个结构。

不好意思，我还是不明白为什么后面两块修饰修饰的都是people，我觉得修饰的应该是language呀？

确实是修饰language呀，楼楼可以自己尝试翻译一下~
