Just completed my Skype interview with MIS PhD at UGA.
It lasted for only 15 minutes. But they said "we like you." I don't know what that means.
May be because one of my recommenders is a PhD from there and wrote a strong LOR for me.
They only asked some basic questions like: Why PhD? Why UGA? Research interest? How you choose schools? Follow up Questions?
I asked if there is any chance to collaborate with professors outside this program? For example, if at a conference I meet a professor from like California or even London who allows me to work with he or she in a project that I am interested, is it possible for me to spend a semester there?
The answer is you can if you can fund yourself but it's no recommended because it would be a distraction for you and will make you unlikely to get your PhD degree within 5 years and you will receive no fund beyond year 5.
