They don't even have empirical ppl left. Being strong in analytical is one thing, have no empirical exposure is another. Everybody needs both empirical and analytical training, although some schools do not have analytical ones sadly. Plus, I haven't seen a lot of chinese doing well in analytical research, it's harder to do, harder to publish paper, especially if you are not in the circle. Btw, I don't like the way they treat GZY, he was the one responsible for their phd program. It's a sign that they just don't like empirical research much...

hehe, SONYYYY, I think you are right. Some acct phd candidate in CMU said she did not know what the hell the current doctoral student should do, coz nobody does empirical now. Gu is such a nice person. It's unfair for him. Anyway, UMN is still a nice place to go.

GZY did tell me he has warned the senior phds for some time now, even before the decision was made, and has sort of prepared them for it, as for the junior phds, who cares.

Looking at websites won't tell you much maggie, GZY is going to UMN, lucky for UMN this time.
