The subject of previous clause should be the source /agent /do-er of the action described in the -ING.
Eg: Matt’s sister slapped him ,angering the child’s father.
——-dad was mad at Matt ‘s sister for hitting him.
Matt was slapped by his sister, angering the child’s father.
——— dad was mad at Matt.
Can the comma +VING modifiers ever modify the touching noun?
If the modifier comes after a clause, then no.
If it just follows a noun(not a clause ), then ,yes , it can.
