Hello,
This is Jason. I recently returned from my yearly business trip to China and wanted to share a little bit about the experience with you. This year, I visited Beijing and Shanghai where I attended career fairs, met with our wonderful LER alumni network, and engaged new employers for Chinese graduates of the program. Highlights of the trip include visits to Fortune 500 companies Roche Pharmaceutical, Dow Chemical, and Honeywell, where I met with HR leaders to discuss our program and how we can connect them with top talent for their teams. LER continuously works to connect with new employer partners for our students and alumni. Please enjoy the attached photos from my trip.
If you want to hear more about my trip or if If you have questions about our MHRIR program, please email me at jboys@illinois.edu.

Meet our student: Runting LIU

My name is Runting and I come from Xi’an, China, the capital of Shaanxi province. I received my undergraduate degree at Xiamen University; I was a dual-major in Law and Economics. I also have four years of full-time experience in the workplace. Now, I am a first-semester student in LER!
I chose LER to further my education because LER is renowned for its cutting-edge interdisciplinary course design in employment relations, which fosters both personal and professional advancement. The courses designed in the program are quite flexible, two courses are required, and you need to choose one course in each of the four subject areas (labor markets and employment, international human resource management etc.) The six remaining electives can be tailored to suit your interests. You can REALLY customize your learning experience and planning with the instruction of the faculty and professors. Personally, I think as for today’s HR practitioner, business knowledge and acumen are equally important as HR knowledge. Courses such as Firm performance, Game theory and Economics of human resources will equip me with the knowledge, analytic skills and global insights necessary for a highly competent HR practitioner.
One thing that impressed me most is inclusivity. Every preference, taste, idea, and value is respected and taken seriously. You are encouraged to feel free to express your opinions and thoughts in the classes. You can have a lot of opportunities to create close bonds with fellow students if you want. Even during the COVID-19 periods, we have a LER Virtual lunch on Friday where you could catch up with your LER peers on a lunch call! I really appreciate all the things the School have done to help us stay “involved” and “connected”!

For me, there are some challenges and struggles going back to school after four years of working. It means stepping out of the comfort zone.  I would say, “you will never know until you try it.”  Be open to new experiences. Every exposure is fantastic and surprising. I feel grateful for everything I am experiencing at LER. There are kind and agreeable peers, encouraging and instructive professors, and supportive and amicable staff. They are always here to work with you to navigate and structure uncertainty, and get on the right track! It is all about the experience!
( If you want to know more about the life and experience in the LER or in Champaign, free feel to E-mail me: runting3@illinois.edu! I am willing to share with the story in U of I. )
