Regarding the possible impact of Ivey new strategy on international applicants, Ella Strong, Director International Students Relations at Ivey commented as below.
1) There would still be no quota for students from each country. Quality applicants from every part of the world are equally welcomed.
2) A potential change in admission criteria may be higher requirement on work experience, since the 12-month program is tougher for students with less experience. Ella confirmed that Chinese students in current class have a longer average work experience than Canadian students do.
3) The new program requires better language proficiency. This year Ivey raised TOEFL requirement (for class entering fall 2005) to 620 although it said 600. However, Ella enforced, TOEFL is not all. Interview becomes more important because interactive communication in class is critical to this case method program.
4) More language skill training will be launched for the incoming international students since they will have shorter time to get used to English speaking business environment. |
