Hi Louzhu,
McGill is a very good university in Canada, very good research atmosphere and study environment. Also, as you probably know, McGill PhD program is in collaboration with other three universities in Montreal, therefore you can take course, do research with any professors in all four universities. You will build very strong academic connection, at least in Canada. In additoon, you can immigrate to Canada very easy. In fact, you can appy for PR 6 months before you PHD graduation in Quebec, and it is almost 100% sure you will get it. I suggest that you take McGill offer if your want to work in North America eventually.
However, the only downside is French. Although most people can speak English, it would be hard to integrate with the local community if you don't speak a word of French. But you will be staying here for 4 years at least, so I am sure you can manage to learn French! And you would face the same problem in HK as well if you dont speak Cantonese.
