Good morning, good afternoon, good evening all!
Thank you for discussing Lehigh's MS in Accounting and Information Analysis program. I see that there are some hesitations about the program. I would like to extend some information to show an alternative view of the program.
1) It is true that the MSAIA program does require all international students who have not attended a University in their undergraduate program in an English speaking country to enroll in ESL courses. This has been a policy that has long been placed in this program specifically due to the rigorousness of the program. It is only to benefit the students and help with their adjustment to a classroom setting in the United States.
2) As far as internships, this is largely placed on the students to find and apply for. While we have a wonderful Career & Professional Development Center that assists our students in building strong portfolios, we encourage our students to take the initiative to find their own internships. Within the area there are many companies that our students can use to gain some real work experience within the financial fields.
Additionally, there are many positions on campus that students can gain working experience through RA, TA and GA assistant ships. These on campus jobs also provide tuition assistance. These are posted on the Graduate Student Life page that can be found here: https://gradlife.web.lehigh.edu/assistantships
Also, we post internship opportunities that are made clear to us in several places. I have highlighted a few to show you the many opportunities that we try and make available for our students.
The International Affairs office posts here: https://global.lehigh.edu/internships/students/opportunities
The Career & Professional Development Center posts in LUICE here: https://careerservices.web.lehigh.edu/internships

Some advice on how to gain a summer job/internship from our Career Center: http://careercenter.lehigh.edu/sites/careerservices.web.lehigh.edu/files/Summer_and_Intern_Search.pdf
3) It is true that some of our admitted students are required to take several courses outside of the core requirements for the program. This is clearly stated to our students in a requirements sheet that is sent out with their offer letters. In the program's experience in order for students to be most successful it is important that they complete the courses listed as part of their program. The MSAIA does this with the best interests of the students in mind.
This does extend the time line of the program, but also gives the students more time on campus and in the U.S. to look for internship/career opportunities.
4) Each year the dynamics of the student body changes. We try and keep a diverse population of students, but some times it does lean more toward domestic students in the class. This is due to the high interests in the program from our domestic students.
Please contact the Graduate Programs Office for the College of Business & Economics any time to receive real and honest answers about our programs. We want to ensure everyone has all the information they need when choosing a program to complete their Masters degree. |
