答案是B，我想问的是A为什么不对，OG的解释大概是at some time前面没有加that不平行，还有greatly reducing的主语或者是原因不确定。（OG对于A的解释：The omission of that after the dash makes the function of the final clause unclear. The structure makes that clause appear to be an awkward and rhetorically puzzling separate assertion that the writer has appended to the prior claim about what the anthropologists believe. The agent or cause of reducing is unclear.）

我想问一下A中破折号后面的这部分为什么不能是解释前面的现象呢，这样了话就没必要跟believe that平行了呀。还有greatly reducing不是可以作为伴随状语表示结果吗，也就是说是前面ancestors suffered an event的结果, 所以没必要有主语呀

求求大牛们解答

至于伴随状语 本句其实表示的是结果还是其他意思有点模糊

这个也不算是同位语从句吧，破折号不是可以相当于冒号，后面可以跟一个全新的句子来解释前面的句子吗。而且这个reducing从句表示结果感觉不模糊呀，因为主语不可能是ancestors，所以只能是因为ancestors suffered an event这件事情导致了他们的数量reduce呀

谢谢！这个帖子包括里面的帖子都挺有帮助的。baby在里面总结的comma+Ving的知识点很全。但是貌似依然木有解答我的那个提问哎，为啥greatly reducing不能用，那个帖子里面说了comma+Ving做结果状语的时候subject可以不是前一句的主语但是要和主语有关。在这里就满足这个点，reducing做结果但是也是和ancestors有关的。

而且破折号那里也貌似木有好的答案，唯一可以解释的我想了想可能就是  如果破折号前面是 A says/believes that ...... ----  ......。这种带从句的句子，破折号后面就要加that以免歧义吧，因为前面句子有从句，所以后面破折号会有不知道是解释从句还是解释 A says/believes这个主句的吧

个人认为 基本上破折号在GMAT里的用法都是同位语从句 所以that不能省略
后面的v-ing 曼哈顿里面的解释是“一般是修饰前面句子中的main nouns" 这句话的main noun应该是ancestors 所以不明确 reduce的主语应该是event
不过 我认为解题关键点在于that 其他情况下reducing表示伴随应该可以的吧

个人意见：
1. 破折号可以等同于；号，所以前后需要平行。
2. A 中 at some time in the past our ancestors suffered an event, greatly reducing their numbers 可以看做完整的句子。那么reducing 这个动作是修饰our ancestors 的。从句意来看，是event减少了number，而不是ancestor，所以a不对。

破折号解释前文一般不需要就近，这里that并不是必须的，加上只是会更好。毕竟前面有主从句，到底解释主句还是从句，肯定加了that就更清晰了。

既然是解释前面为什么evident，用一个因果关系解释还是用一个经历了什么样的事件解释，相比因果关系并没有定语从句限定修饰好。
