我看了论坛的贴子和og的解答还是没明白为什么是this year和last year 比？因为og在错误选项解释有说"last year's" does not parallel the adverbial phrase this year.
我就觉得是prices和prices比，不是year 和year比。而且主语也是prices啊。

错误选项的其他原因我已经知道了，比如说more than的问题和 rise， higher会 redundant。
我现在就只是不明白这个比较的原因。

Heating-oil prices are expected to be higher this year than last. 不是单纯的今年比去年，而是今年的prices和去年（的prices）. 因为前面已经提到了heating-oil prices, 那么在没有其他比较物出现时, 这个就是比较的主体，this year/last year是变量.

就好像我们中文说：我今天的心情比昨天好. 你肯定知道我的意思是今天的心情比昨天（的心情）好. 英文也一样, 已经提及的信息，补出所有关键词就累赘了.

比较时最简单的方法就是从后往前看. 这道题你只要看到than后面的last，在前面可以找到对应的部分“this year，" 那么这个比较就是语法上成立的.

谢谢。除了最后一段不同意以为其他都同意，我还是觉得要从意思上去看比较的对象，而不能从后面开始看。

我们说的并不冲突.

从后往前看，是为了保证比较在语法上成立. 从意思上去看比较的对象，应该是在第一遍读题时就要领会的 - 保证句意上成立.
之所以之前强调从后往前看是“最简单的方法，” 是因为你知道原题中对比的对象，但是不认同它的语法.
