ok，没错，鉴于gmat对所谓的ambiguity很较真，你可以说第二个of会导致你这里所说的歧义。那么The combination of a reliable water, fertilizer and good growing conditions plays a crucial role in farming应该是更好的说法。

但是其实你看原题，正确答案就是the combination of a reliable supply of water and good growing conditions，所以gmat这里不会把这种写法理解为the combination of a reliable supply of water and a reliable supply of good growing conditions，所以我觉得你的担心是多余的。

2. The combination of A and B, 或者the combination of A and of B.
无论哪一种，在这个句子里A都是a reliable supply，那么B是什么呢? 如果B是good growing conditions, 那么water和fertilizer之间要有个and, 或and of.

如果你说的是原题，那么只有两个元素，即A是a reliable supply of water, B是good growing condition。

如果你说的你举例的3个元素的例子，那么格式应该是combination of A, B and C。如果是combination of A and of B and Cs，有两个问题。第一，combination of A, 这里A你举得例子是a reliable supply of water，singular noun是不能和自己combine的。第二，combination of A and of B and Cs，其实原意是combination of A and (combination) of B and Cs, 那么说的就是两个combination，和你原句后面的动词plays不对应，这种情况动词应为plural form.

另外，回到你最开始的问题，这里说的是combination of的用法，你举的第二句这个例子，其实提到了两个combinations，即
combination
of top-quality seeds
and
of good growing conditions
这已经偏离原来的主题了。这就好像是在讨论both A and B的用法的时候，一般来说both A and both B是错的，你说both As and both Bs没错，一样的道理。举出的反例和最开始的问题已经不是一回事儿了。

2. 具体情况具体分析. A在原题还有我的例子里是a reliable supply, 自带了一个of. 所以combination of a reliable supply of water and of fertilizer and good growing conditions, 后面依然跟的是谓语单数. 如果是A在这里只是clean water, 那么结构自然是combination of A，B and C.

这道题您之前的回答大概是就题论题, 所以只留下了一句combination of a and of b 属于unidiomatic的错误. 我只是想在楼里留个提醒, 还是要根据整个句意和具体combination的组成来看待of的位置是否合理, 怕有G友看到combination of a and of b 立刻以非习惯表达理由排除. 我的例子确实和原题是不一样的，也是我特意举例要说明的地方, 现在看来是没说清楚让简单知识点复杂化了. 如果不是单纯的讨论combinations of a, b, c, 而是用完整的句子来讨论, 相信我们对于of的处理应该会是意见一致的。

同意你的说法，特别是你说“怕有G友看到combination of a and of b 立刻以非习惯表达理由排除”。最后还是要回归语意，才能正确选择。

说一下我的理解
我觉得这道题主要的考点在于 combination of X and Y both 的语意重复上面  ，第二个考点在 combination of X and Y
上X和Y的并列上，这两个问题要比时态的问题要大
至于时态，我个人认为如果用have been enduring 的话一定要有一个从什么时候起开始持续了至少6000年的标志
如果没有这个标志，比如 have been enduring for at least 6000years since......
而且个人理解 have been ving的形式有一种将来还会持续的趋势，这是你没办法从句中获得的
