Great to hear from you, and overall, I think you have a great profile, and if you hit the GMAT score you are aiming at, you should be able to apply to M7 schools.

Now, on to your questions!

1. Apply for HBS, Stanford, MIT, Chicago… Besides getting a good GMAT score, which other aspects should I improve?

Should I transfer to startup just in order to make the background more diverse?

I don’t know the importance of LOR. My ex-boss and current boss both graduated from HBS MBA. I can get the LOR from EVP or CEO of big company.


So, the main thing you can work on is:
- Leadership - this can be in work or without. And should, in fact be both.
- Volunteer Work - you didn’t mention that here, so make sure you have some of it. And if it’s not strong for sure work on that.
- ECs/Sport/Activities - Likewise, you want to make sure you have some diversity in your profile.

2. I heard that MBA like young applicant and with diverse background. I don’t know whether I have the chance to get into HBS.

You have a chance if you get the GMAT and can write a fantastic story. Diversity is a plus, it’s not an obligation.

3. I heard that Stanford prefer IT girl more than coding girl. Right?

Not necessarily. This is just legend. Stanford likes people with Vision. People who are thoughtful and intelligent. IT could be IT could be coding and could be anthropologists or anything else.


4. Is LOR very important?


Of course it is! Less important than the essays though.

哈哈，我等硅谷纯码农就被lz赤裸裸的bs了 :-)

不过我基本同意lz的观点，理工科的思维通常都是重在搞定事情，而不是搞定人，其实很多时候最难的还是搞定人。我觉得在FLAG里面混得好的码农也都是people skill非常强的人，不管是天生的还是后天训练的。我没有这样的天赋，不过还是希望能够通过后天努力弥补一下，这也是为什么我想读MBA的一个原因。

lz的背景我觉得很不错了，如果是明年开始申请的话我倒觉得可以先好好把GMAT考出一个好分，英文功力好当然很加分，但是会有一些偶然的因素在里面，个人觉得要考750还是要好好复习一下的。我一战前觉得自己英文还不错，怎么也在美国待了好几年，光design doc就写了一堆了，结果碰上了几篇很变态的RC (比如传说中的micro lensing那篇)结果就只考了720，直接导致我把整个进度又向后推了一个月，二战发力了一把才考到760。lz既然有时间和实力那就好好先把GMAT搞定就是了。

startup是很好的体验，我以前也做过startup，确实对人是全方位的提升。不过如果只是为了申请就去startup的话我倒觉得没有那么值得，既然去了就应该抱着和公司一起成长把公司做大的心态，全身心的投入进去才能真正有所收获。
最后好奇的问一句，那个"行内影响非常大的Product 明年会到更加Impactaful的阶段"是啥？ :-)

今年才申请我就不乱写误导lz了，lz背景很好，明年加油吧！

最近不是出了一生只能考8次的规定么。然后我男票就非常为我担心~ 因为他觉得GMAT这个其实比较靠运气 有时候得多刷几次。但是人生中用到GMAT的时间可能不止一次
最近是 法定休假月啊 所以我大概是留出了一个多月 每天都非常充足的时间~
因为我身边的小伙伴都是 裸考750 复习的780 ╭(╯^╰)╮ （不过他们都是M7 MBA所以Make Sense）

我其实不着急的说~因为才刚刚工作 觉得在公司里要摸索的都好多 =。= 不管是management还是people skill我觉得我都很一般。我最崇拜的就是前台拉deal的同志们~

放心吧，你绝对不会需要考8次的。。。准备个一段时间考个一两次应该差不多，实力在的话就是靠心态的调整了。

如果你工作时间还不是很长，倒也可以先在工作中享受和学习一下。类似FLAG的公司里面什么样的人都有，而且相对也没有那么aggressive，所以在各种各样的人打交道的同时又能锻炼技能也不会觉得压力很大，我觉得挺好的。

对了。我还想问问，我男票说 作文和IR可以完全不用管 没有人看 不知道是不是这样。 他比较神神叨叨的。。。这样会导致我这两部分题都不做的。。。

I do a lot of volunteer work and co-founded an amazing charity program.
I am a huge sports fan. Played soccer and drove/ designed race car (And Karting！).

And for the question about Stanford, sorry for the misunderstanding. I was trying to say that I was told that, for applicants from IT industry male have lower admission rate than female. (Because less female in the industry.)

Having too many interesting things to share in my life,  I should think about how to position myself and tell my story.
MaybeWrite sth. down every day.
This will also encourage me to try new things as well.

我个人觉得不是的。如果申请好学校的话作文是几乎一定会看的，我在不同的admission guide都看到不要忽视作文的说法。如果英语基本功好的话，适当的熟悉常见思路（看七宗罪），整理自己的模板，5分以上应该不难。我考试前大概写了4篇左右，练习了10篇左右的思路，两次都是6分。

对于IR的说法有不一样，有的说不重要有的说重要，像EssaySnark很明确的说了IR已经快5年了所以很多学校会有参考数据所以会开始看分数。我觉得如果好好复习verbal的话IR拿满分并不难，12题对8题就行了。IR有一个很tricky的地方是它在verbal和quan之前考，所以如果IR做得不好会影响考试心态，间接影响后面的考试。我也没有很专门的去训练，把OG的题型做一遍熟悉了最后再结合JJ应该问题不大。端正心态一定没有问题！
