processes在that从句中做的是主语而非宾语。而且，processes大家认为是抽象名词还是具体名词？我比较倾向于抽象名词，如果是这样，岂不是应该用as？？

species后面跟的是同位语从句而非定语从句，就没有做不做宾语之虞了吧

685题processes是抽象名词，用that也没有问题。
新prep226题中that其实不是跟the same搭配，而是跟前面的so搭配的。
其实the same...as里面的as也是关系代词。

the same ... as 和the same ... that的使用场景有时确实可以依照lz所说的判断。不过我对the same ... as/that的本质区别看法不太一样，附上从另一角度出发看待的解释：
当先行词被the same所修饰时，关系词既可以用as，也可以用that。在表示具体事物时，有时两者有一定的区别。一般说来，表示同一种类多用as，表示同一事物多用that。 如：
This is the same instrument that I used yesterday. 这就是我昨天用过的那台仪器。
This is the same instrument as I used yesterday. 这台仪器跟我昨天用过的那台一样。
在抽象概念上，同种类和同一事物是没有绝对区别的，所以两个词可换用：
I have the same opinion as / that you have.

另外是as做关系代词，并用于the same...as结构时的几个例子
    as跟在”the same + 名词”结构之后，相当于一个定语从句的引导词（关系代词或关系副词，who, that, whom, when, where）。as的先行词为the same所修饰的名词。
    the same … as + n. （类型相同）        A has the same book as B has.  非同一本书，同一款书
the same … as.. 是一个并列结构，前后要形式对称 （白勇p27） 如：the same to sb. … as to sb.
the same … that     (同一物体本身)     Today I use the same book that is used yesterday. 同一本书
  例句：
  I read the same books as most young people do.
    The same professor as taught my father is teaching me now.
    written in the same year as/that The adventures of Huckleberry Finn was published.
