Networking与就业（附WPI Student Organization介绍）

很多小伙伴在咨询选校相关的问题的时候，都会问这个专业的就业情况好吗？其实在美国，除了非常popular的CS相关的专业，其他各个专业找工作的难易程度都是半斤八两。所以，专业的就业率高低和你个人到底找不找得到工作并没有非常直接的影响~个人的努力真的是非常重要的。

在美帝学校里很容易出现中国人扎堆"玩"的现象。而且有些专业由于中国人倾向性比较大，所以课堂上会出现80%以上都是中国人的情况，随之同学们就会把身边没有外国人的原因归结于此。但其实每个学校都有很多的student organization或者各种event，在你抱怨周边环境不够diverse的同时，想想你是不是在这些活动上投入了时间精力呢？去参加这些活动的时候你是不是主动和不相识的非华人聊天了呢？

Networking的重要性其实各种学长师长都强调得太多次了，有篇article也讲到“New Survey Reveals 85% of All Jobs are Filled Via Networking”。看下图其实让我惊讶的是，networking竟然比internal referral还要高...

所以WPI也提供给学生各种机会进行networking。对WPI感兴趣的同学，有两个student organization值得大家关注的。
1. Graduate Student Government
The Graduate Student Government (GSG) is the governing body of the graduate students at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). Our mission is "Promoting Graduate Life" and we fulfill this by being the effective graduate student voice, communicating with faculty & administration, and providing academic & social functions for new & existing graduate students.

这个组织主要是针对研究生的，为在校研究生们筹划和举办各种活动。每年的秋季也会有organization负责人的竞选，就像国内的学生会一样。中国学生有很大的机会成为负责人之一，一旦成为了某个学生组织的成员，你也一定会面对和各种人打交道的场面，networking的机会也就有啦，同时为学生办事，简历也能润色不少。当然，如果没有成为成员，参加他们举办的活动也有很多拓宽交际圈的机会，只要你愿意“step out of your comfort zone”、敢于和陌生人交谈~

2. National Association of Women MBAs - WPI Chapter
National Association of Women MBAs is a non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of female business professionals as corporate leaders, executives, and entrepreneurs, enriching workforce diversity around the world. Open to both male and female students, the WPI chapter was organized in the Fall of 2011 and is dedicated to bringing professional business knowledge and experiences to all graduate students through programs about education, professional development, networking, and collaboration. Benefits offered to members include networking, career planning, professional workshops and conferences.

这其实是个national的协会在WPI的分支。虽然说这个协会的名称有Women，但其实活动是不限男女都可以参加的。他们会不定期举办各种和就业息息相关的networking events。比如他们邀请过CVS的成员做了一个panel的活动，成员包括CVS里的manager，analyst，engineer各种不同岗位的人。再比如他们也会举办关于创业、怎样networking、怎样和雇主协商薪水的讲座和workshop等等。

最后，申请旺季希望大家都能得到好的offer，也建议大家在选校时要做足research，从各方面评估一个学校~
