TWE004,第一篇(修改过),恳请拍砖!谢谢

004 It has been said, "Not everything that is learned is contained in books." Compare and contrast knowledge gained from experience with knowledge gained from books. In your opinion, which source is more important? Why?

Recently the problem has been brought to the focus that which source is better to gain knowledge. Quite a few claim that individual experience is more important, but others, in contrast, deem the books as the premier choice. From my point of view, it is more sagacious to learn knowledge from books rather than experience. The reasons are presented below.

First of all, no one could deny that books are of various kinds and have different contents, by reading books we can learn many things without actually seeing or hearing them. By reading scientific books, we are informed of many facts; by reading geography, we know the earth’s surface, forms, physical features, etc.; by reading history, we are told of the growth of the nations. We can learn lots of things we did not previously know, be aware of what has happened in the past as well as what is going to happen in the future, or gain self understanding. Because “art is long and life is short”, it is impossible for a person to learn everything through his or her own experience, while books can help to achieve this purpose.

Moreover, the great variety of knowledge is average readers’ main concern. While for the experts such as scientists and historians, and the college students, what they care most is that books provide more systemic knowledge, which cannot be gained merely through experience. For instance, in order to offer the complete system of some certain knowledge and enable the students understand the complicated theory more thoroughly, the teacher needs a textbook which provides all the related essential principles in order. Only by learning the theory from systemic books, can students possess a solid and logical academic background. Some specific experience do help students to understand the theory further, however, what experience provides is separated and only small parts of the knowledge.

In addition, it is also important to see that people have an easier access to a number of books than to lots of experience. A case in the point is that people can buy a book from a bookstore along the street anytime they want. And each book can always be afforded by the families. In contrast, in order to gain some knowledge from experience, it is probably not so easy. In order to know through practice whether there live some deer on the African plain, people have to travel to African first and equip themselves with various tools, which cost much and exhaust explorers. Obviously, such kind of knowledge can be easily gained from biology books from a store nearby, at the expense of only 10 dollars.

Admittedly, I do not deny that learning knowledge through knowledge has its own merits. We can assess the credibility of the knowledge we have gained from books. In summary, despite the experience enjoys the considerate advantage, it cannot be compared with books in more concrete advantages. For the reasons presented above, I strongly commit to the notion that it is a better way to gain knowledge through books.

修改过后字数增加不少,考试肯定不行,第一篇,谢谢大家指正!

写的好, 就是太多, 两个优点就够了, 最后一段可以变成两段:让步段和结尾段.
