All the following answers are based on my own knowledge and they have limitations in nature. There may be something wrong or out of date and I don't want to mislead anyone. Please double check the official website or confirm with other professions if you need to rely on this information to make decision. I will not be liable for anything inaccurate or out of date.
1. For CMA
Previously, Canada has three major accounting designations: CA, CGA and CMA. In the previous years, MMPA helped students to exempt from some exams of CMA. However, these three organizations have merged and become one unified accounting professional body called CPA. Please see the following news:
"In January 2013, the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA) and the Society of Management Accountants of Canada (CMA Canada) established CPA Canada. In October 2013, CPA Canada signed an agreement to merge with Certified General Accountants of Canada (CGA-Canada), which occurred on October 1, 2014, completing integration of the country’s national accounting bodies."

Starting from the CPA unification, we do not need to separately pursue CMA designation; instead, we pursue the new and unified accounting designation: CPA. And, yes, MMPA helps us exempt several steps of CPA examinations.
2. CIMA
There is a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) between CIMA and CMA, stating that as long as a holder of CMA (or CIMA) satisfies some general criteria, he/she is also recognized by CIMA (or CMA). I did not find any updates of this Mutual Recognition Agreement but I personally guess CIMA and CPA will also have some sorts of mutual recognition since CPA is a new designation that covers CMA designation (I am not sure about this point yet). If you hope to pursue CIMA directly, MMPA may qualify you for the option of Master's Gateway Route, which requires a MBA degree or a Master in Accounting degree. However, I have not checked whether MMPA program is on the list for Master's gateway Route. If you are interested in pursuing CIMA directly, you may try to find whether we qualify for the Master's Gateway Route or not.
3. CGMA
Charted Global Management Accountant (CGMA) is a new designation powered by CIMA and AICPA. If you consider CGMA designation, you may pursue CIMA qualification first. On completion of the CIMA qualification and becoming a CIMA member, you are automatically entitled to the CGMA designation.
4. CFA, FRM, CFP...
For these designation in Finance, MMPA cannot help you exempt any examinations. You need to pass all of them by yourself.
Hope it helps. |
