Lol. Thanks for your kind thorough respond here. I don't want to argue with you. You certainly made some points but I have to say, there are some points I need to clarify here and it might also be helpful for other people reading it.
From my perspective, grades are not that important, as I got several admissions from good programs all over Canada too, (U of T, UBC) even when you think my GPA is not enough. What does matter? Besides the numbers on your transcripts, language or GMAT tests, the overall experience you have and the stories behind you are the most important parts. This is even more important when you well present yourself because people want to see you are driven, they want to see you are passionate and dedicated for the program. So, PS, CV and cover letter are exceptionally essential. Only when you can't clearly state yourself out, the recruiters have to look at your grades. I don't want to list all the examples here but I guess many people know some similar cases. I have been helping many people coming here for the recent three years too so I know a lot of students have done this successfully. As for work experience, especially local work experience, it's much more important than grades for programs that are not that academic and aiming at helping students to start their career here in North America. Canadian people past predicts future, that is why. They do kinda ignore your experience in China, but they do see local experience very valuable.
Secondly, I am not only aiming programs in more Math related programs, that has been said, I also said I am not only aiming programs in Canada. I have two Co-op terms and I don't think find a full time job here is a mission impossible, so the reason I am thinking of applying is because I want to broad my views and do something somewhere different. Even though I applied to MMF at U of T, I still think I have got a big shot. Why? Just look at how many WHU alumni there each year and you would get a rough idea.
Why did I say my case special? Firstly, individuals are all special, how can you generalize and divide people into with or without high GPA? I think my case is kinda special as I am getting a master degree already, and have been working here in a North America environment. As for the people hanging on this website, mostly still stay in mainland China, I can't ensure everyone has done that.
Finally, Here is my kind suggestion, try to stop generalizing things, it's good for your life...
Thank you so much for your sharing though, you have been very considerate and helpful to some extent. Cheers, Harrison |
