完全同意helluft  的解释，如果把句子还原的话就是
raider ants are unlike leaf cutters and most other ants in having nests ... 这里的unlike leaf cutters and most other ants 是dangling modifier, 如果抓句子主体可以去掉， 就是 raider ants in having nests ,再接全文后面的意思。

我觉得那个 http://www.beatthegmat.com/leaf-cutters-and-most-other-ants-in-having-nests-t284776.html 给的解释其实是没有抓住问问题的同学的迷惑点， 或者老外思维里觉得 unlike.... 这部分的作用和结构很明显，  所以他只着重解释了 in+doing = 副词的效果。 确切的说是副词或者状语的效果。

不知道楼主还在不在纠结这个in doing的问题。 我个人认为原句: unlike....in doing, raider rants....说明raider ants只在in doing...的情况下才跟leaf cutters and other ants不一样. 把倒装句放回去看就比较容易看出来  

raider ants, unlike 一个东西 in having nests underground, make ... by ...... in having修饰的是raider ants.

还有在ron视频里面有说过 逗号+which可以修饰前面的 noun 或者 noun+ prep phrase. 这的prep phrase是 of leaf cutter and others ants里面有第二个名词.  因此这里 nests of leaf cutter....  = noun1 + prep phrase (prep + noun2) 的情况下 逗号which可以修饰leaf cutter..... 也可以修饰nests

for this to make logical sense, the 'struggle' should be with some smaller aspect of '___ing'.

关于剩下的BC ，

由于in doing 是adverb ,修饰的肯定是v ，那么这道题就变成了in doing 修饰的make （ nonsense）  解析如下~~ 这样就违背了correctly~~
