请问IT consultant的性质？做好一个IT consultant，大部分是需要IT技术还是更多的需要对企业的了解？

It's almost pure IT work, such as programmer, database administer, or operating system administer, or system engineer who writes document. Nothing with business.

IT consultant的工作性质有点类似pre-sales,但是level要高一点，而且不会深入到coding之类的工作中，主要是跟客户沟通，把握客户需求，写proposal,为用户提供solution, 可能涉及到从技术层面完成销售工作，（有可能需要作seminar）偏重marketing一些，但是还要对公司产品和service有技术层面的了解。具体的根据公司的不同可能会有细微的差别

主要的quanlification包括沟通及演讲能力，熟悉公司产品所涉及到的技术及市场上类似产品的优缺点，IT背景是基础，知识面要广，但是市场推广能力是关键。二者都不可缺少。

Are you talking about IT consultant in China or in US? As far as I know, more than 80% IT consultant deeply 深入到coding之类的工作. 'Consultant' just means you work in the client company but for IT consulting company. The main reason is that most big companies don't hire employees without green card, while most consulting companies sponsor H1 & green card application. It' nothing with 市场推广能力.

我在国内，但是我所看到的是，无论是什么性质的企业(小公司除外)，还真没有看到某个挂着consultant的title的人去coding,去作DBA;任何大型的企业级软件都有可能有二次开发或者定制的部分，客户现场开发是不可避免的，这属于售中和售后的范围，而consultant一定是在售前或者市场推广的时候出现的。

你说的情况我不清楚，但是感觉应该是利用IT consultant的名号来输出劳务而已，跟真正的consultant无关，否则IBM，Oracle之类公司中consulting服务岂不是跟developing一样了？

多谢二位的精彩讨论，就我的知识而言，二位都对。美国确实有提供技术的IT consulting company. 但企业自己雇佣的consultant就和mildsevens所描述的一致。我查过英文的定义，相信即使在北美，IBM之类公司的consultant也和在中国IBM的一样。本来有些糊涂，现在清楚多了，多谢两位！
