is phd in economics easier to apply than phd in finance?

i have attained a Bsc in Computer Science in PRC for two yrs,

and i will begin my master study in Mathematics finance in U of London this fall.

i wanna apply phd in finance or economics or kinds of that next year.

what should i do?i am very confused.

maybe Financial Mathematics is harder than to pursue a finance Ph.D.

Actually, I do not think u have any advantage in application for phd.

Although I do not know the education system of the England, I much doubt its admission standard. As what you said, your major is cs however the major of your master is fm. It is so weird. Fm is not easier than what we imagine so if you have not strong math background, don't touch this nut. Have you learned some courses ie. probability, mathematical statistics, pde, ode, numerical method, real analysis, computational math, mathematial model, stochastic process, regressional analysis, SDE, BM。。。。。。 if your major is physics, I think you are suitable for fm program. If not, I think you will have a long way to run.

My major is cs too. But to apply finance math, I take a second degree for math. So if I were you, please calm down first and make my math background stronger. After that, you only have changce to plan your next step. It is only my personal opions!!! Good luck!

我不知道你大学的时候那些数学方面的课程学过没有?

好象在我的印象中,你说的大多都学过.当然了，学得也不是很好.

大概学了十几门的数学方面的课程.可能还是不够.

因为我不大想继续在CS方面读更高的学位,又对经济金融方面一直很感兴趣,

所以就在思考可以读什么,可以比较好的结合自己的背景和期望.

难于上青天呀 我认识一个清华大学的数学硕士 还有一个美国top30的数学硕士 其余的条件接近完美 可是申请了8个top school 的finance phd 结果 惨不忍睹 全军覆没 我完全无话可说了
