In Shanghai, it is reasonable to get 30w to 50w in top IT/Software/Telecom companies R&D department with around 5+ years experience.

In Toronto, it is reasonable to get CAD$8w to 10w for senior level, CAD$10w+ to 15w+ for lead/manager level. (CAD : USD = 1 : 1)

But now cities like Shanghai and Beijing, housing is a big problem. If you just take a look at this ratio [house_price/annual_salary], you see how hard life it would be comparing city like Toronto. Of course, if you already have a house in those cities, I think 30w to 50w range should be good enough. )

how many years of w/e it takes to reach the senior / leader / manager level?

In those top IT/Software/Telecom companies, R&D @ Great Toronto Area,

Normally 5+ years related experience for the senior development positions.
Team lead or development manager should be around 7 - 10+ years.

Of course all of them are based on your performance...

我觉得这部分人学完如果留在美国工作，从工资和购买力上看不会加码很多

美国TOP10名校MBA毕业的学生起薪平均大概10万美元，70多万人民币，再考虑到购买力因素，其实好像效用不明显。

当然有些人会回国，这会面临到一个与国内脱节的问题，也许他们着眼于长远吧！

所以真正年薪很高去读MBA的人可能都是着眼于长远吧。

不过从这个结果看，钱挣的少的好像就没办法出国读MBA了么？

A friend of mine is also applying for MBA.  That's how much she makes:

Profile: age 32, an engineer working for a fortune 500 company in SF Bay Area.
Degree: BS and MS in computer science, both in U.S.

Base salary: USD 130,000 per year
Bonus+Profit Sharing: USD 66,000 per year
Total compensation: USD 196,000 per year
Plus, stock options (~10,000 shares)

Other benefits: flexible working hours, one day working from home in each week, 20 vacation days + 10 holidays per year, medical + dental + life insurance, tuition reimbursement (full tuition for engineering degrees)

Her husband, also an engineer, probably makes about 20% more than she does. They hired a live-in nanny to cook and take care of their baby for them, paying about USD 1,500 per month.
