Hi Uiber,

Thanks for your kind sharing!!

I am currently facing a issue to deciede among Emory(with 10k scholarship) and USC, besides Emory's deposit deadline is aproaching.

Both Emory and USC have good location. I want to transfer to financise field, which school would be better for my future career? If I want to work in the US, would staying in California be better?

I love the weather in LA, but the campus and facilities of Emory are state-of-the-art, comparing to USC's not-so-safe campus. USC is famous for its Trojan Network while Emory is so famous in Asia. (In addition, I am also concerned about the bad reputation of USC's undergrad.)

Could you give me some advice?

Thank you.

Could you also contact me through email: cloudy3891(A) hotmail.com ?

You can see the high quality of the whole Emory MBAs from the example of Uiber if he is not the prominent one. if so ,don't hesitate to choose Emory over USC.

lucsh, I am so flattered by your remarks and makebj, I am so glad to know that you are choosing Emory! Cloudyblue, USC, as far as I know, is a great school and many big investment banks recruit from USC. I also had the pleasure to meet the chairman of alumni (or people holding similar position) personally and had great impression. There are a lot of ethnic Chinese in California and most of the esteemed financial institutions have presence either in San Francisco or LA. If you pursue job for private wealth management in Goldman Sachs or Merrill Lynch, it would be pretty good! But other than that, I am totally an idiot about USC.

It would demand more efforts for a career switcher in general wherever you go, based on own experience here, as I said before, relevant work experience is really vital. But better ranking and reputation will definitely help you alleviate some of recruiters' concern.

Great luck!

uiber,

no wonder you can obtain great internship offers, as you have the qualification for being waitlisted by top schools. As we all know, top program's waitlisted candidates are similarly competent compared with those admitted, but only with less luck. And your experience echoes what I have learned about Emory's stratedy, namely, providing generous scholarship to attract those waitlisted applicants for top ten programs. As a result, the student quaility at Goizueta is strengthening.

having said that, may I come to the conclusion that Emory is aware of the fact that virtually all admitted applicants for top ten programs may not accept Emory's full tuition waiver? As you have mentioned, you yourself will attend Chicago if you were more lucky last year.

Best wishes

Hi zdcgy,

Speaking frankly, as I always do, I shoud say I would go to "drink the wind" one year ago if I just got a straight admission from Chicago and it was my dream school at that time. (as a matter of fact, I did tried hard to kiss ass after the waitlist decision in spite of my crazy, almost inhumane round-the-clock working schedule at that time, but those efforts turned out to be a sour notice from GSB of Chicago. After the admission of Emory, I got a final ding from Chicago) But back then, I knew almost nothing about Emory. I didn't know the amazing community and kind people, I didn't see the promising picture of obtaining an offer both for summer intern and for full time job, I didn't see the competitiveness of the talented youngsters on Emory's campus. In general, I didn't know Emory like I know her now.

As people say, one's panacea can be others' poison. My enthusiasm and passion of Emory doesn't mean that this small school can bring the same feelings to each and everyone and that this small community fit everyone's taste. I am just sharing what I obtained and what I experienced. Hope my story may help people know more about the school. Anyway, the WSJ called Emory as the Hiden Gem. Just want to let people see the glittering of the gem. But please spare me for showing the gem to those diamond or ruby fans.

All my best wishes to all the dream chasers!

i guess zdcgy is now really hesitating before the choices. but here the most key question for you is: whether you are confident of yourself or not. if so, believe me, wherever you go, you can become a star. looking back, you will find that school may not be so important for your life or career and an experience you want plays a more key role. so just chase your dream!

uiber,

thanks for sharing your personal experiences of application process and ilfe of b-school. just as bluesyy commented, whereever you receive education, you can always be a star if you deserve one, and i think you have exemplified this. (or her comments may just be a summarization of your experience. :p)

good luck to you and best wishes to all dream chasers!
